Leather Care

Stash Home Care Guide

Leather is a living material that grows more beautiful with age. Slight differences in tone and grain from one hide to the next are part of its character, and with a little routine attention your piece will develop a rich patina over the years.

Routine Care

  • Wipe down the surface once a week or so with a soft, dry cloth to keep dust from settling into the grain.
  • Fine surface scuffs on most leathers can be smoothed away by gently rubbing with your fingertip or buffing with a soft chamois.

Spills and Spot Cleaning

  • Press a clean white cloth onto spills right away to absorb the liquid. Do not scrub.
  • If a mark remains, follow with a lightly dampened cloth. For anything more stubborn, mix a small amount of gentle soap into warm water and test it on a hidden spot before treating the visible area.
  • Wipe away any remaining moisture with a dry cloth and let the leather dry naturally.

What to Avoid

  • Skip household polishes, waxes, saddle soaps and all-purpose cleaners. These products can strip or discolor the finish.
  • Keep leather furniture out of direct sun and away from radiators, vents and fireplaces. Prolonged heat and UV exposure dry out the hide and fade its color.
  • Never soak leather or use harsh solvents on it.

Long-Term Maintenance

  • We recommend conditioning protected leathers once or twice a year with a quality leather conditioner, always tested first in an inconspicuous area. Suede and specialty finishes should be left untreated.
  • For deep stains, set-in marks or an overall refresh, we suggest calling in a professional leather care specialist rather than experimenting at home.
